I recently found a book at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin entitled "The Copeland Family, A Copeland Genealogy" by Warren Turner Copeland, published by The Tuttle publishing Company of Rutland Vermont in 1937. It is over 800 pages in length including two indexes. It is probably the most comprehensive account of this family that I have ever seen. The following is my family line through 9 generations via his son William.

Alfred was a Drum Major during the War of 1812.


Alfred married Mary Williams, daughter of Nathaniel Williams and Lucinda Hodges. Mary was born on 2 May 1783 in Taunton, Massechusettes. She died on 30 May 1860 and was buried in Winnebago Cemetery, Winnebago County, Illinois.

Joseph Alfred served in the Union Army for the entire Civil War, enlisting as a Private and being promoted to the Office of the Adjutant.


Joseph married Hannah Doughty, daughter of John Doughty and Hannah Wright, on 9 Feb 1865 in Ogle County, Illinois. Hannah was born in 1841. She died in 1923 and was buried in Winnebago Cemetery, Winnebago County, Illinois.
