Hi,
I talked to the archivist for quite a while and he did some research immediately.
Results:
- an Anton Rembgen is not on the emigration list (not all registered there, esp. not if they did not emigrate to America directly)
- the archivist says it's very, very likely that that Anton born on 17 Jan. 1826 and bapt. roman catholic on the same day was your ancestor,
firstly because an Anton could not be found on any marriage register after 1845 and secondly no Anton was on a death register (that does not really prove that he emigrated, he could have got married and died somewhere in the neighborhood.) But as he "disappeared" from Rheinbach it can mean he emigrated, thirdly the combination son- Anton, father - Gerhard, mother- Elisabeth can be a funny coincidence, but this is very unlikely regarding that unusual name Rembgen.
- Most Rembgens were from Flerzheim, incorporated into Rheinbach
- If Gerhard Rembgen and Elisabeth Reintgen were his parents I have the year of marriage for you: 1813, and found some of his siblings on familysearch.org. I also found a Gerhard Rembgen born in Flerzheim on 13 Oct 1788 which would also match.
The archivist told me I could certainly come and do some research and if so he would like to have info on what happened to Anton after coming to America, such as his marriage and death records. If I can give him some info and papers he would provide the Rheinbach records without charging. Isn't that a deal?
Well, this is all I can do for you at the moment. My guess is that Anton from Rheinbach to almost 90-100 per cent was your ancestor.
If you want me to drive to Rheinbach and do some research further back I would ask you to reimburse me for my travel expenses.
