Hi Margaret,
Re: ... "I have John's death certificate. It doesn't give much away. The only information is his name, age, place of birth, occupation, time in colony, religion, where buried, cause of death states 'not five minutes in hospital'."
Are you 100 per cent sure, that this is your man?
That death you show, on your tree as 27 October, 1877.
I have found a death, two months later, for a Mary SULLIVAN, and her husband John SULLIVAN is still alive.
3164/1877 SULLIVAN MARY JOHN MARGARET WATERLOO
SMH, Thursday 27 December 1877, Page 8:
THE FRIENDS of Mr. JOHN SULLIVAN are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of his late beloved WIFE, Mary; to move from her late residence, Bourke-street, Waterloo, THIS (Thursday) AFTERNOON, at quarter-past 2 o'clock, to Catholic Cemetery, Petersham. C. KINSELA and SONS, Oxford-street.
However, the January 1877 record for Ellen SULLIVAN (their daughter) states:
Father John Sullivan, alive, resides in York St, Sydney, Tailor. Mother, dead.
(If that record is truthful, then Mary SULLIVAN would have died prior to January 1877, and not the December 1877 funeral that I just quoted).
