Bathurst Free Press and Mining Journal, Wednesday 23 October 1861:
A Hard Case.—A young man named Thomas Dover, son of Mr. James Dover, one of the oldest settlers in this district, was apprehended and detained in the lock-up for nine days, for having in his possession a saddle cloth, made out of a piece of carpeting which was supposed; to have been stolen from a Chinaman. The young man's father offered good and substantial bail for his appearance, but this was refused, and when the carpet was shown to the Chinaman he denied all knowledge of it, consequently Dover was discharged. October 17th, 1861.
