Hi, I saw your message on Rootsweb,

Who are your Fishers? Mine are Stephan and Anna (Waltersheidt). Thier daughter Catherine married Joseph Yoest in 1868, I have lots on the Yoests and maybe a few pictures of Fishers?

Do we have a connection?

Thanks! Jeffrey

Actually I'm not sure who my Fisher's are. I think my GGgrandmother was Mary Fisher b. about 1780 and married Samuel Driskell - and I have Mary's father as Abraham Fisher and her mother as Rhoda Layton. We have an old letter from a great aunt that states Mary's name and we are trying to put this together. So, at this point we are just searching for leads and documentation to be able to make some connections.

Good day,

I too am a decendant of Adam Fisher. I have been researching this family for ~15 years. My database has ~70,000 people. My mother and father come from old and large families.

What information specificly are you looking for? From who do you decend?

Narrow down your questions and I'll try to answer them for you.

3. Rhoda Layton, born Abt. 1756 in Germany; died in Yanceyville, Caswell, NC.

Notes for Abraham Fisher:
Rockingham Co., VA was formed from Augusta Co., VA in 1778.

"Abraham Fisher married Rhoda Layton, according to one family statement in 1773 which would have been 16 years after Adam Sr's death and when Abraham was, according to my (James S. Fisher's) specculation, 43 years old or thereabouts. We do not know just when Abraham and Rhoda went to NC but family tradition has it that they went to Yanceyville, Guilford Co., NC during their later years to live with their children. Yanceyville is where they are said to be buried and it would be my further speculation that their burial place would be on the land owned by whichever one of their children they were living with. Our Adam Jr. and wife were both buried on their own home-site on Indian Creek (OH).

[AdamFisherJr.ged]

Adam Fisher II was born September 29 1750 in PA. His Father , Adam I
left Germany with his family to settle in the new world at the invita tion of
William PA leaving behind his oldest daughter. Adam, the son, serv ed 18
months in the Revoluntionary Army, and then sometime between 1794 an d 1797 came to OH settling near Indian Creek in Clermont Co.. I t is said that he purchased a part of this land at a price of $.75 pe r acre and paid $1.25 for the remainder. It is on this property tha t was buried at his death on May 7, 1827 at age 77. The Grave site c hosen was a knoll adjacent to Indian Creek and overlooking the homesi te. His wife Susannah Jones of MD shares this last resting pla ce with him. They had eleven children, two became ministers of the g ospel and one served a term in Congress. John served as Commander o f the Southern OH Militia. He made his home near Laurel and he an d his wife Catherine "Caty" Lindsey are buried in a family plot not m ore than than mile from here. John and Caty had ten children, two o f whom died in childhood and were buried in their grandfather John' s private grave yard. John L. as remembered by his grandson, Frankli n Clifford was a devout Christian. He read the Bible through many ti mes in his lifetime and was very strict in his observance of the law s of God. Perhaps this explains the fact that three of his grandsons , brothers of Franklin Clifford and a son of William Oscar and Lavand a Nichols became ministers - two in the Methodist Church and one in t he United Bretern Faith. Charles served many years as pastor of th e Williamsburg and Bethel Methodist Church.

The descendants of Adam ansd Susannah are now legion and are scattere d over a
great part of the United States. Those who are aware of their herita ge are
proud of the part Adam Fisher played in gaining freedom for this grea t nation
of ours. May his service stand as an example and may we be willing t o give as
much that our country will ever be free.

Folks, I have read both of your postings thoroughly, but find no direct relation to my Fishers in Pettis and predominantly Moniteau counties.

Stephen Fisher married Anna Walterscheidt in the late 1840's, perhaps in Moniteau, most of their children were born there. Do you have any references to these names in your data? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Jeffrey

I am a descendant of Mary Fisher and her "Driscoll" husband. I really believe that Mary married a Moses Driskill and that Samuel Driskill/Driscoll was their son. Samuel was born in Rockingham Co., NC in 1799; died in 1870 in Pettis Co., MO. He married Isabella "Ibby" Dudley in Caswell Co, NC in 1820 and they had 12 to 14 children. They moved from Caswell Co., NC, about 1833, spent a year or two in TN and were living in Greene Co., IL from 1835 to 1839. In 1840 and 1850 they appear on the Morgan Co., MO census. In 1860 and 1870, they were in Pettis Co., MO.

Samuel and Isabella both joined the Lick Fork Primitive Baptist Church, Rockingham Co., NC in 1824. Moses Driskill was already a member of that church but Moses and others left the Lick Fork Church in 1829 to form the new Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Caswell Co., NC.

Samuel Driskill/Driskell was re-converted in the Old Liberty Baptist Church by Elder Greer, and Samuel became a Baptist minister. He was pastor of the Flat Creek Baptist Church in Pettis Co., MO from 1853 to 1865.

What is your Driskell line of descent? My mother was the daughter of Elisha Dudley Driskell and Ibby Frances Driskell who were first cousins. Elisha was the son of William Fields Driskell and Isabella Cathey. Ibby was the daughter of Abner Nash Driskell and Sarah Elizabeth Kirkpatrick. William Fields and Abner Nash Driskell were both sons of Rev. Samuel and Isabella Dudley Driskell.

Look forward to hearing from you.
