Sorry John, I haven't come across a Robert Gladden in my research. There was a William Gladdin (probably misspelled) in the 1840 Cherokee County, NC census, but I haven't seen the family composition and I haven't yet tied him to my family. As for Littleton, I believe him to be the oldest son of Jesse, one of the three brothers in the 1790 Fairfield Co. census. Do you have any information confirming or denying my suspicion?

the rest of THAT posting of mine!
...regarding the spelling of William Gladdin as being misspelled...remember the rule of genealogy is (I know, I'm preaching to the choir...forgive me!) The people in those days spelled phonetically. If it sounds like Gladden...chances are it is Gladden/Gladding/Gladen/Gladin/Gladwin, etc. I hope both parts of this reply are posted.

The first part of that posting should have been...
Tim, Thanks for the information on William Gladdin. I did not know of him. He may be one of mine! Regarding the family of Littleton Gladden, I gave that information to another genealogist on the www, and I will send her your name and how to contact you. She does have the three original Gladdens in SC - I gave them to her. (I got the data at the Fairfield city archives in SC when we lived there.) Should you come across anymore on that William Gladdin in NC, please let me know. I'll begin to look at him too.

My GGGrand father married, Benjamin Hardin married the dau. of Thompson Gladden in NC. I think he was a bro of Moses. I also have a Collins that married a Gladden in NC. Another Collins married a Hardin. I have been told that Thompson Gladden married a Hamilton, sp. Does any of this connect with what you have.

Charlie Raymon(d?) Gladden
Rena, I have much information about the Gladden family from around Cold Spring, San Jacinto County, Texas. Cold Spring is located about 65 miles North North East of Houston, Harris County, Texas.
Included is the following:
Name: Charlie Raymond Gladden dob: 21 Jun 1913 pob: Point Blank, San Jacinto County, Texas m: unknown dod: 10 Mar 1969 pod: Houston, Harris County, Texas
This branch of the Gladden family can be traced back to Baldwin, Washington Hancock Counties, Georgia in the early 1800s and possibly earlier in South Carolina. In the early records, the name is often spelled as Gladin, Gladen, Gladding, Gladden, Gladdin, etc.
William S. Gladden came to San Jacinto County, Texas after the Civil War. He married Kate Cleveland in 1887 in Cold Spring, Texas. Practically all of the Gladden's from San Jacinto County, Texas are descendants of William and Kate Gladden.
