My 4thggf is James Hopkins b. 17 June, 1765, Orange Co., NC. He married (second marriage) Elizabeth Billingsley in
Rowan Co., 1795.
We believe that his father, William, b. 1735, who married Jane Bolling (b. 13 July, 1740 Henrico or Dinwiddie Co., VA)
were married in 1759 in NC but have yet to find confirmation
that their marriage was also in Rowan Co. A note:
My ggfather, James Thomas Hopkins (b. 23 Aug., 1864, Cedar Co., MO d. 24 Feb., 1940, San Francisco, CA) always
insisted his Hopkins' ancestors were from Scotland. And it
seems that there was a substantial Scottish population in
Rowan Co. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
