And where would that be? I think I have written them..I have written just about everywhere and everyone in Canada, north south, east and west..I'll bet my postage comes to more than my weeks pay...I need to know what places, ie: schools, orphanages, etc that were run by French Nuns, probably Sisters of Notre Dame. Also, was there such a thing as a domestic taking the surname of the family she worked for? We cannot find a Henry Parker which is the name on her marriage license for her father....and we know she worked as a domestic at some point..It's all so confusng and I'm getting older by the minute...65 now, but a young 65 or so I'm told. I know she was born in Yarmouth and the name Eelbrook was mentioned....If this is true her name as all Indian names were kept or their baptismal record was kept by the Catholic Church. There is a St Anne's ????? at Bear River..it's a Mission Church and when we went there about 3 or 4 years ago, there was a sign that we could not read as the sign was down and worn away, but the lettering on it seemed familiar to something I had seen or read somewhere...I wonder if they had baptisms if so, where are the records? Sorry, so any questions wish I had some of the answers....Anyway, I'm going back to Eelbrook in the spring and start over...unless something big happens that changes my plan....thanks for the return email.....Any help is great...Barbara

Hello Barbara:

It's frustrating isn't it? I think we might be connected somehow though. Unfortunately my mother (who is now 73) suffers from the beginnings of alzeimers, but I will see if I can get her to recall anything. Her long term memory is really good. She was born in Eelbrook and so was her mother (Rosalie Octovie Muise -1893). I will see what I can find out for you this weekend. Feel free to e-mail me anytime at: spaniels@klondiker.com I would welcome the chance to get to know you.

Sincerely,
Denise

Hi Barbara!

I have my mom over today and I've lost your e-mail address so it would be great if you could e-mail me directly at spaniels@klondiker.com. I want to help you find out about your Meuse/Muise roots because I have been in the same boat.

Mom tells me that there was no orphanage in Eelbrook -- it was in Halifax. My mother went to a two-room schoolhouse in Ste. Anne du Ruisseau (formerly Eelbrook). The school was run by The Sisters of Charity. Mom says that her mother's aunt (Julienne) worked as a housekeeper for a Dr. Parker in Tuskett who had five children. Two of these children were deaf mutes. My mother's mother (Rosalie Octovie Muise) worked for a Dr. Melanson in Eelbrook until she married my grandfather (Alvinie Anatole Lorgere). If you can give me some more specific information then maybe we can look together. I want to pick my mother's brain, so any details you might know may jog her memory. Was Clara your grandmother? And Mary Ellen your mother? Please e-mail me back.

Me again Barbara! Where are you living now? What was your father's name? What is your sister's name and the name of your uncle? Any details like names, etc., may help jog mom's memory. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Denise Leschart

Hi again, Okay, my grandmother was Maryellen Muse,we knew her as Nellie Parker which is the name on her marriage license. She was my father's mother. Her mother's name was Anne Muse and her father was Henry Parker according to her marriage license. She was born 1878-1880 in Yarmouth and the name Eelbrook was also mentioned. The witnesses to her marriage were Louis LaFave (spelling questionable) and Margaret Muse. The marriage took place in Malden, Ma. USA in August of 1904.
She always told my sister she went to a convent school and was taught French in the morning and English in the afternoon but was forbidden to speak her language which we were told was Mi'kmaq. We were also told she was orphaned young, again not sure of this detail. While living in South Boston, Ma. many years later, a man named Frank Muse came to visit her but she refused to see him.
I do apologize for not contacting you sooner but I have spoken to so many people I've truely lost track.
Where are you located? I'm in Quincy, Ma. By the way, Wakefield is right next to Malden, Ma and a number of Muse families are buried at St Patrick's Cemetary. Please keep in touch as I will....Thanks, Barbara

Agnes Doucette was born 22 Dec 1869 at Tusket Lakes, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Jean or John Doucette and Marguerite Muise who were married 07 Jan 1869 at Eel Brook, Yarmouth, NS.

John Doucette was born about 1846 at Tusket. His father was Charles Casimir Doucette and his mother Marie Julie or Jeanne
Leblanc. Marguerite Muise was born about 1845. Her parents were Pierre M Muise and Francoise Doucette.

John Doucette died in 1873 at age 27. Marguerite Muise Doucette then remarried to Moses Muise.

I think this is the family in the 1881 census:
