Dave, Sebastian Hertel is my g g grandfather also. His son Joseph is my g grandfather. Frank Hertel is my grandfather. Helen Fessler (Hertel) is my mom.

It is nice to hear from you.I live in Minnesota. Where do you live? I would be interested in sharing Hertel family history. To verify some info, was your g grandfather Joseph born in 1843? Do you have a private Rootweb account so your name isn't listed?

I Live in Oregon. G Grandfather Joseph was born in 1854 in Meme, Manitowoc Co, Wisconsin and died in 1945 in Sheboygen, Sheboygen Co, Wisconsin. He was married in 1882 to Mary Mirsberger. I remember seeing another Joseph that was born in 1843 but that is not the one I am related to. I haven't looked around much so I don't know anything about Rootweb accounts. I have a user name and password. Seems to be all I need to read and write.

Hi Bob, My mistake 1843 is the birth year for Theobald your g grandfather's brother. I have 10/25/1854 for birth of Joseph. Did Joseph have 7 sons and 3 daughters? Have you seen the Hertel family history that Rev. Ephrem Hertel wrote many years ago?

Joseph Hertel b.1854, according to what I can find, had four sons (Jacob Henry b.1883, Frank Lenard b.1889, Joseph Paul b.1890 and Andrew John b.1892), and three daughters (Anna Marie b.1884, Mary Margaret b.1886 and Elizabeth H. b.1894). If you have records for three more sons, can you provide their names and birth dates?

Also, do you have birth dates for Joseph's b.1854 brother Sebastian and sister Mary Anne?

Bob, I went back through the Hertel history that the Hertel priest wrote which said there were 7 sons, 3 daughters. I could only find info for 4 sons like you said.
Joseph's brother Sebastian (my g grandfather) was born in 1844 but I don't know the month & day. He died 2/2/1881. Their sister Mary Anna was born 11/1/1838 and died 2/8/1998.
Do you have the birth & death dates for Sebastian & Anna Marie Kindler? I don't know it.

This is what I have on Sebastian Hertel. He was born on Feb 28th, 1810 in Elbach, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France and died on April 24th, 1884. He is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, Herman, Sheboygan Co, Wisconsin.

Anna Marie Kindler was born on Jan 1st, 1810 in Elbach, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France and died on Feb 7th, 1905 in Chilton, Calumet Co, Wisconsin. She is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Chilton, Wisconsin.

I attached two files for you to look at. Let me know if that works here. One was the 1870 US Census showing Sebastian, his wife Mary, John and Joseph. The 2nd one is from the Sheboygan Press and shows a picture of your Gr Grandfather John.

Do you have your grandfathers name, birth and death date?

i have been looking for ancestors of my husband. we have traveled all the way to clay center nebraska and found land grants, records of peter hertel, and his family. also went to visit cemeteries. it was an interesting journey. our daughter stood right by her great grandfather's tombstone and
that of his wife. her tombstone was in german.we were told that peter's parents entered this country from germany at ft. atkinson, wisconsin. so when i read your message and saw wisconsin, i thought i would try this route. we are trying to locate where in germany the hertels came from. pse respond if possibility that we are from same tree. b. hertel
