Hi there,

Found a Robert Fleming 43y with wife? Agnes Stevenson 43y and a James Stevenson 17y plus other Fleming children William 15y, John 13y, Jean 6y& Margaret 4y in the 1861 Index in Kilmarnock Ed 1 page 31.

There are a few other James Flemings in Ayrshire but this looks like your best bet as ages wouldn't have been right for a first marriage in 1866!

Regards

Duncan

Hi there,
Thanks for the information I believe that's the right family i have a death cert for Robert his wife was Agnes Stevenson, is James, James Stevenson Fleming? the only sibling I have is William who was named on the death cert.. i believe James was born abt 1845. My grandmother was James's daughter Jane.

Thanks

Kath,

Without the full entry it is difficult but at a guess I would say James Stevenston was son to Agnes before she married Robert Fleming. However in the 1851 Index he is shown as James Fleming 7y, with William 5y, George 3y, Robert 1y and William Stevenston aged 18. Ed 2 page 19

When transcribing other censuses for Freecens I have found quite a number of errors in the Index so I suggest you need to check the full census just in case James's middle name was Stevenston.

Regards

PS: The 1861 Index shows birthplaces for Agnes and all the children as Kilmarnock whereas Robert Fleming was born in Perth Kincadam? may be Kincarden??

Duncan.

If you contact the librarian at Ardrossan Library and give them the Ed Nos & page nos etc I am sure they will look up the Census for you.

Hi.There. I don't have info that you are looking for but I noticed your name Calow. Might I ask if you have traced the roots of this name ? My Family on my Father's side were linked by marraige to Callows who came from Isle of Man.I thought by chance there may be a family link.

Hi Kathleen,

Did James marry Ann BROWN on 28 DEC 1866 at Ballantrae?

If so, the online IGI shows a ROBERT FLEMING born 07 OCT 1867 in Kilmarnock to this couple.

Hi Alex

Yes James Fleming & Ann Brown got married 28 Dec 1866, I knew about Robert b 7 Oct.1867, I found this on Scotland"s People havent been able to find his sister Mary yet she was also born in Kilmarnock. After the 1871 census the family moved to Cumberland England, they were still there in 1901 but cannot trace them after that. My Gran Jane Fleming and several of the family moved back to Scotland.

I would really like to find any of James Fleming and Ann Brown"s siblings.

Hi Kathleen,

Remember you may need to search the 1861 census for Ballentrae as that is where the couple married in 1866.

There are 2 FLEMING researchers searching in Kilmarnock listed on the Ayrshire Surnames Index Database at http://www.ayrshire-roots.com/
