My Great-Great Grandfather was Peter Schmitz from I was told Daun, Germany. This is very near Treis Karten, on the Mosel river. He arrived in the US in the mid 1800's single, and married a Mueller. After her death he married a Pauline Brandt from Berlin. Settled in Dunkirk, New York, and I believe worked on the railroad.
