Classification: Query
You can still query the search engine at SMGF for surnames in your pedigree to see if your sample has been analyzed yet. You can then deduce your results yourself, but some people find that task a bit daunting, and they can now ask GeneTree to do it.

When you go through GeneTree, you have the additional option of allowing people to contact you if you match. The SMGF database is completely anonymous.

Also, if you know your mtDNA results from anyplace, you can create an account at GeneTree and they'll perform the search of the SMGF database. They then display the results with haplogroup assignment and background, plus an innovative "DNAvigator" which shows the geographical locations of your matches at different points in time.
