Hi! Well it was totally by accident....I was getting together birth/death certificates thinking there was a Cherokee connection in my family (not one officially so far, but that's okay)....the farthest back person I got a certificate on (in Oklahoma, a fairly young state) was William Henderson Martin b. 1860, this is my great-great-great-grandfather, and *his* father was Valentine Martin, and mother was "Washtie Boone", and both their birthplaces were McMinn County TN.
So I did a search on-line and saw it spelled "Vashti" and "Vastie", and "Boon" and "Boone", but found that was common back then.
I saw (on this message board, it's been a while tho) someone quoting from the McMinn County Heritage Book and listed offspring of Israel and Elizabeth Moore Boone as all these people, and then at the end it said "...Vashti m. Valentine Martin and secondly to Jacob.." then there's no more quote. :( That's my connection, but I haven't seen that book myself.
I wrote off to see if Valentine Martin and Vashti Boon(e) were ever married in McMinn county, TN, and I have a copy of the written note in a ledger from 1846! I don't have a birth or death date, but just the marriage date of Nov. 1, 1846. (I assume she was about 20 then, but it's dangerous to assume.) :)
Another website, familysearch.org, comfirms a Vashti Boon and Valentine Martin were married then and there.
NOW, there's another lady I was corresponding with, and we both have William Henderson Martin as an ancestor. Her mother did family stuff, and apparently there is a link to "the" Daniel Boone, but there's some debate according to a couple of aunts somewhere. :) I haven't talked to them...but get this....I remember as a kid, SOMEONE told me we were distant ancestors of Daniel Boone, but I remember telling kids at school that and they thought I was a goober, so I never persued it. :)
SO....I don't know if that answers your question that well. :) My parents have started to try to confirm this link....I always wondered if maybe Vashti was adopted or something....the name seems so odd compared to other names, you know? If so, there wouldn't be a blood link to Daniel Boone, but what a story!
Anyways, if you want copies of anything, I have a copier at home, and I'd be glad to send you copies. It's not much, but it's neat to look at. :)
I haven't pursued this in a while, but you've got me interested again. :) I'm too cheap to buy subscriptions to geneology websites, so I have to do my searches on the free internet sites. :)
Good luck!
Melody
