I finally was able to find the time to visit the old Barton Cemetery and I did find the headstone for John Masters Barton - he died in 1890. I never did find any mention of his death at the provincial archives or in the late Dan Johnson's NB Newspaper Vital Stats site (http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/NewspaperVitalStats/?L=EN).

I wonder how many other untranscribed cemeteries are lurking out there with the answers to our genealogy mysteries.....
