I have been told by Anthony Camp,. ex -president of the Society of Genealogists that the CAMP name originates from a village in Cambridgeshire called Castle Camps, and that it first came to England from France with the Norman occupation ( 1066 and all that) I have searched the parish registers, those that still exist, for Castle Camps and have found nothing - but of course it may be that the information is in much older documents in Early English or Latin.
