Some things are clarified by the testimony of Christina's brother William Hubbard in Chapman vs. Cooper, 1852. Christina Hubbard had been married to a man named Mr. Pulliam who left her and was never heard from again. Christina had a daughter quite a while after his disappearance, assumed to be illegitimate. This was Nancy, sometimes called Nancy Pulliam.
Christina married John Chapman before Mr. Pulliam had been missing seven years and could legally be assumed dead. She had a son soon after her marriage, who may have been illegitimate. He was called Joseph Hubbard; John Chapman didn't acknowledge him.
John Chapman turned out to be an abusive alcoholic. Christina left him and went to Georgia.
