Need help finding funerel home in Brooklyn

Is there a funeral home at 7106 Fort Hamilton Parkway? What is the name of the funeral home?

I have rememberance cards dated 1956 and 1959 indicating that John J. O'Neil is the funeral director. I have not been able to determine if still in business.

If they are not in business where would their record have gone.

Thanks for the help

Dan

I entered the address at google.com and it came up with Peking Kitchen. I tried to locate John J. O'Neill Funeral Director and could not.

Thanks for the reply. I had the same results. Im hoping some one may be researching family that used the funeral home in the past. Any suggestions on how to find the closest funeral home on Fort Hamilton Parkway?

Perhaps you can contact a nearby florist. Use the same google method. You should find one nearby located on 86th Street and Ft Hamilton Pkwy or on Fifth or Fourth Aves. in the 70's or 80's (streets that is).
Good luck

Try the county clerks office. I read somewhere that they may have the records of closed funeral homes.

Maybe the National Funeral Directors Association can help.

The names on the cards are

John J. Herlihy died June 29, 1956

Thomas Herlihy died May 22, 1959

They both were waked at John J. Oneil, 7106 Fort Hamilton Parkway. Spoke to florist and other funeral homes on Fort Hamilton. No one heard of John J. Oneil.

The phone number in 1956 was SH 5-6261.

Does anyone have a 1956 telephone book?

Dan

Dan,
Regarding phone books and directories...there is a george Miller that might be able to help you on New York County message board. Ask for him there.
I will see what I can find for you regarding the names you posted.

Try calling Clavin's Funeral Home on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn (same general neighborhood as Ft. Hamilton Pkwy)-Clavin's has been around for generations.
Also, there is a chance that the burial was out of St. Ephrem's RC Church on Ft. Hamilton. You might want to contact the church to see if they know of anything.
Good luck.

This will probably be useless to you but I checked a bunch of obits in The New York Times and O'Neil's Funeral Home on Fort Hamilton Parkway drops off the radar in about 1962 and another O'Neil's Funeral Home pops up at 422 E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, NY. I couldn't tell you if they were one and the same or if they are still in business.
Good Luck.

Hi Albert

Thanks for your reply and lookups. Is the New York Times Obits. a subbcription or can anyone do the lookups? Did you see my posting of 19Sept2005. I posted the names and dates of the people I am looking for. Any chance you can do a look up for me?

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan.
I checked the NY Times for John & Thomas Herlihy obits around those dates you gave and nothing comes up. Chances are they're in a Brooklyn newspaper of the time, have you e-mailed the Brooklyn Public Library? For a modest fee they will look up the obit (if it exists) and mail a copy to you.
It's worked for me.
Do you know the names of the spouses of John & Thomas? Maybe I can see if their obits appeared in the Times, excellant chance they are in the same cemetery.
By the way... that Mamaroneck, O'Neil's Funeral Home was still at that E. Post Rd address as of 1985.

Thanks again for the information. I have not emailed the Brooklyn Library. Will do so. Do not know John's wife's name. Thomas never married.

Could not find O'Neils Funeral Home listed in the NYS Funeral Directors web site.

Do know that John and Thomas are buried in a family plot in Holy Cross

Have you tried Google News? Archives are now online. The aticles must be purchased but the cost is low.
I found my great grandfather's probate info there.
Just go to Google News-type in what you want (I typed in 7106 Ft. Hamilton Brooklyn) anf then to the left of the screen, selected all dates and an awful lot of obits came up from the funeral home you are looking for.
Hope this helps.
P.S.
I didn't read all your previous posts but if you are looking for info on people of Irish ancestry, the Irish Parishes around Ft. Hamilton Parkway are
Our Lady of Angels on 4th Avenue Brooklyn (11209)
St. Patrick's 5th Avenue (11209)

St. Ephrem tended to be more of an Italian Parish.
St. Anselm's was a bit of everything 4th Avenue (11209)
A very large Irish congregation worshipped at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on 5th Avenue and 60th Street.

Another P.S.
I am not sure where you live but I live within a holler of 71st Street and Ft. Hamilton Pkwy.
I believe the spot is now either an apt building or a furniture store (I will have to take a walk over there to check it out).
If there is anything I can do for you from my place in Brooklyn -just let me know. So many people around the country assisted me when I was searching.
Best regards,
Madeleine

I googled the address, and got this:

Ft Hamilton Mkt
7106 Ft Hamilton Pkwy,
Brooklyn, NY 11228
(718) 238-7622

Maybe the current owners will know the history of the building.
