My mother-in-law's biological father was Kenneth Turner from Lake Placid(?)...his mother was a Hendry. There are some Hendry's buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Placid and my mother-in-law said they are related to Kenneth..(uncles and their wives)...
Anyway, my mother-in-law's paternal grandmother was a Hendry. My mother-in-law's name is Mitzi Turner Crews.

Let me start this by saying I don't have much information to go on myself. I am looking for my husband's mother's side of the family which are Turners and Hendrys. My mother-in-law was a Turner, Mitzi Sue Turner. Her daddy was Clyde Kenneth Turner from Lake Placid, Florida. Clyde Kenneth's mom was Edith Hendry, I don't know Edith's husband's first name, just that he was a Turner. When Turner died, she married a J.D. Elliot and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where she died. She originally was from Lake Placid, Florida. Edith had an aunt named Ruby Hendry. Clyde Kenneth Turner is buried in the Oak Hill cemetery in Lake Placid, Florida. I believe Lois Hendry was married to one of Kenneth's Hendry cousins. I will try to find out more info from my mother-in-law. If this John Wright "Tobe" Hendry was buried in Venus, Florida which is like 15 miles down the road from Lake Placid, my guess is he may be an uncle or cousin to Edith Hendry Turner. Cora Agnes Howard, his wife, died in Moore Haven which is only like 30 minutes south of Venus. I'm willing to bet they are all related...my mother-in-law didn't have too much to do with her birth father's side of the family when growing up, so it's kind of difficult to get any info from her on them. I mean, she doesn't even remember her grandfather's name! Her mother & father divorced when she was 15 months old and her mother, Mary Lou Bradley Turner, married John William Tillman from Lake Placid. John William is the only daddy that Mitzi has really known. Clyde Kenneth Turner was a gambler and an alcoholic. He remarried a woman named Nell and had 3 sons by her in Lake Placid. I have looked all through my Hendry genealogy and can't place your Edith Hendry (M:unk Turner) I will keep looking.
Do you have her birth year? That might help me find her.
I thought the area is right....Clewiston, LakePlacid, Venus and Lakeport for Edith and my Tobe to be related. I will get my daughter to go with me to the cemetery at Venus and see if I can find any clues there. Just wanted you to know, I haven't forgotten you...Judy

My mother-in-law, Mitzi Turner Crews, is the one I'm getting info from...keep it in mind that her daddy, Clyde Kenneth Turner (whose mother was Edith Hendry) and her mother divorced when Mitzi was like 15 months old and Kenneth never really had too much to do with Mitzi after that. He remarried and had 3 boys. That became his family other than his drinking and gambling obsessions. So from what I gather from Mitzi, the Hendry family didn't see Mitzi all that much. Edith was her grandmother. But with Mitzi's mother remarrying and moving away from the Lake Placid area, my guess is that the Hendry's never pushed to see her. Cannot give you an exact date on Edith's birth, but I'd say she was born between 1895 and 1905.

25 mar 2004 you inquired about John Wright "Tobe" Hendry. He was my grandfather Jack Hendry's older brother. Tobe was born in Manatee County August l2, 1873 (now Desoto County) and died in Palm Beach County May 26, 1944. according to his obit and death cert. he was buried at Venus May 28, 1944. I have looked for his headstone, but never did find it although other Hendrys are buried their. Hope this info is of some help.

Hi Judy - according to the book on Hendry families by Spessard Stone of Wauchula, Tobe Hendry and Cora Howard Hendry had the following children: 1) Sophie Mae Hendry born Jan 1896; 2) John Wright Hendry, Jr. born sept 1897 - John lived in Okeechobee in the early 1930's and later was a policeman in Pallm Beach; 3) Richard Hendry; 4) Rhoda Ellen Hendry born 1901, died 1982; 5) Samuel Edward Hendry born 1905, died April 19, 1980 - When I first knew Sam , he was police chief in Belle Glade in mid 1930's and he later became a U. S. deputy marshal out of the Tampa office. Sam visited me in Okeechobee a few months before he died. 6)Percy Bruth Hendry; 7) Robert Hendry; and 8) Kizzie Mae Hendryl I hope this information will be of some help. Spessard Stone lives in Wauchula and authored a book "John and William sons of Robert Hendry" in 1983 and has written a second edition from which the above list of children is furnished.

I was looking through the postings and I saw that a lois Hendry is burried in the Venus cemetary. My Mother Lucille Hendry is also burried there. I was born in Clewiston in 1956.
