Thank you for your email reply. Happy New Year.
I have found numerous records at the NGB website referencing a Peter Ezekiel and a Thomas Ezekiel in Harbour Main as early as 1796. There are recorded real estate transactions from the 1790's (Plantation Books) at
http://ngb.chebucto.org/. I am assuming the Ezekiels were in Newfoundland
In the early 18th century based on these records. My research has been leading me to believe that perhaps the Ezekiels were Merchant seamen.
At a website called Maritime History Archive . There is a published cd called - Ships and Seafareas of Atlantic Canada -
http://www.mun.ca/mha/publications.php. Does anyone own this resource?
I have also heard that the Ezekiels were originally from Ireland, and Ezekiel was not the real name. I will be following up on the Portugese suggestion.
I found a marriage record at the NGB site for a Peter Ezekiel and Catherine Woodford in 1821. This maybe the parents of Captain Paul Ezekiel.
Looks like Lucy Gorman was married twice or there were 2 Lucy's?
From Marriage records of St Peter and St Paul:

Does anyone on this list live near St. John Newfoundland? Again thanks for the info and Happy 2012.
