Re: Pybus of North Yorkshire
Hi Joe I don't have any links to PYBUS, just a few records of this name from the Well Parish records. I note in the 1881 census the following which I believe to be the same ancestry line: Dwelling: Well Census Place: Well, York, England Source: FHL Film 1342173 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 4872 Folio 69 Page 6 Marr Age Sex Birthplace John PYBUS M 59 M Well, Rel: Head Occ: Shoemaker Mary A. PYBUS M 49 F Well, Rel: Wife George PYBUS U 20 M Well, Rel: Son Occ: Ag Lab John PYBUS 13 M Well, Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Frederick PYBUS 11 M Well, Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Alfred PYBUS 8 M Well,
There is a baptism record of a John 10 March 1822, I think this fits well. His parents George and Mary. His death 07 July 1891 aged 69 at Almshouse Well. He had many siblings which I can add if required. A record of George baptism 29 July 1792 (death 22 April 1866 age 73) parents William and Mary. George is listed as a cordwainer, which I think is a shoemaker. Hope this is useful Regards

Hi Mark,
On 4/5 occasions I have tried to respond to your last message (27 Dec 2002) with no luck. Maybe my message is too long OR? Will try this short one. Joe

Re: Pybus of North Yorkshire
Hi Mark, Thank you for confirming some of my own findings and for giving me further details of John Pybus's Ancestors - parents George & Mary and grandparents William & Mary. Thank you also for letting me know that George was a Shoemaker as was his son John Pybus. The Concise Oxford Dictionary confirms a cordwainer is an archaic name for those in the Guild of Shoemakers. Following are further details I have secured of the Family of John Pybus from various sources. I trust that you find them of interest to yourself. Best Regards ..... Joe Parkinson

Re: Pybus of North Yorkshire
Marriage, on 13 May 1902, was solemnized at Crakehall Parish Church, in the County of Yorkshire. Ages shown are as on Marriage Cert. Both are quoted as living at Crakehall at Marriage.
ELIZABETH ANN HODGSON, 18, lived at Ings Lane, Crakehall, Bedale and worked as a Gen Dom Servant at this Address with the Kettlewell Family. Census 1901 shows age as 16 and possibly born in 1885. Father AMOS HODGSON was a Labourer, possibly on a Farm. FREDERICK PYBUS, 30, born at Well and lived at Hutton Conyers and worked as a Horseman on a Farm. Census 1901 shows age as 32. Father, JOHN PYBUS was a Shoemaker. Witnesses were: Dorothy Ann Hauxwell and John Thomas Pinkney (possibly a Sheep Doctor). Banns were read. ===================================== Forwarded by Joe Parkinson, husband of Rita Pybus whose paternal grandparents are given above.
