I have only just found your post as the spelling is different to that of my husband's ancestor but I suspect that it is probably of the same derivation. Morta Tuinyla married John Mickewsky (I believe the name was Mickevicius)in London England in 1893 before migrating to Australia in 1897. According to the marriage certificate Morta's father was Peter (probably Petrus Surname FactsPetrus Surname and a witness to the wedding was a Max Tuinyla. The family thought that John and Morta were from Suwalki Surname "Suwalki Poland but my research suggests that they were from what is now Lithuania. I believe that John was born in Liepakojai which is on the border between the Alytaus and Marijampole provinces. I do not know where Morta came from but the name Tuinyla is Lithuanian and I have found some Tuinylas in the Lithuanian White Pages Surname FactsPages Surname Board It is not a very common name. If you think there could be a connection please let me know.
