I would like to receive your information re Samuel Churchill and his decendants. I grew up in Ochre Pit Cove and often visited Jack Halfyard. In his yard were the gravestones of Elizabeth Churchill and her husband, Richard. I often wondered who she was as I heard my uncle's speak of her. I am not sure what relationship my family has with her but there appeared to be some. My grandfather was Everett Jacobs, son of William Harris Moores.

Regards

I, too, would like to receive your information about the Churchills of Ochre Pit Cove. I am related through the Parmiters. Thank you -

Hi, My husband is a descendant of Elizabeth Churchill and Richard Halfyard of Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland. Please contact me offline and I'd be happy to give you some information. I have not heard the name Parmiters in my husband's line but it was a big family! Elizabeth's father was Samuel Churchill who I have been told had a brother Nicholas. I have not found data on Samuel but it has been suggested that the name in England was Churchwill or Churchwell...

Bradford...How nice to hear from you! Elizabeth Churchill and Richard Halfyard were my husband's ancestors. Someday I hope we can visit Ochre Pit Cove and see the grave you mentioned. I have a picture of the grave. How wonderful to be able to go home. If you contact me offline I'd be happy to give you some assistance.

Guess I should have looked at my notes before writing. I am interested in Phillip Churchill of Topsail. I think that I am satisfied with the information I have as material left by Phoebe Miller clarifies the relationship between Phillip Churchill (parents from Belfast Ireland) and James John Parmiter (son of Richard of England). I do have some additional information on the Churchills of Newfoundland if there is a specific question.

My Rowsell/ROSEWELL ancestor, Henry Rosewell of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland married Patience CHURCHWELL (according to the transcription of Harbour Grace Anglican) Nov. 1783. Based on extensive research, I think that ROSEWELL and CHURCHWELL likely came to Newfoundland from New England.
Do you have any more information about the surname spelled CHURCHWELL in Newfoundland before the year 1797?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Lloyd George Henry Rowsell

I don't have anything yet before the 1800's. I will let you know if I come across anything.

A researcher I have been in contact with was studying that name in Devon England in the 1700s. We had been trying to find the origin of Samuel and Nicholas CHurchill from Newfoundland and he kindly gave us the information he had. You might start in Devon. If you have not searched the Mormon site www.familysearch.org you might try there also in the International Geneological area (IGI) as it might have Churchwell and Churchwill. That has been very helpful in pinpointing areas where family names emirgated from. Good luck...
