Deceased Name: RICHARDS, Robert Sidney
RICHARDS, Robert Sidney, 81 years, born September 12, 1930, died March 2, 2012, from a vicious, fast moving cancer. Grew up in Palmetto Beach, Desoto Park, Tampa. His ancestors came over on the Mayflower. Benjamin Richards married the daughter of Josep Alden, the second son of John Alden, the stripling who first leaped up on Plymouth Rock. Ninth generation Albert S. Richards, traveled by oxcart to Hillsborough County, crossed the Alafia River to settle at Fishhawk as one of the first 700 settlers in Tampa. Later moved to Palmetto Beach, Desoto Park, Tampa, building the long standing Mercantile store on Stuart Street. Robert is of the 11th generation. Family left behind is wife Helen Chattin Richards, daughter Katana (Mauricio) Lorenzo, sons Jimmy (Karen), Keith (Tasha), and Danny (Donna); 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. We are with heavy hearts today. The man who taught us our uncanny work ethics and immense knowledge of the sea, and gave us nothing but unconditional love, has passed away. He revolutionized the fishing industry with multiple inventions still used today, and guided Marine Research teams throughout our waters. Owned the Seabreeze by the Bay Restaurant, Seabreeze Fish Market and Bait Shop, and his fleet of Seaweed Shrimp boats that became a legendary landmark for Tampa Bay. All done with a disarming grin and a wit as sharp as a razor. Rest in Peace. Covered dish preferred over flowers, to be shared afterwards at Causeway Baptist Church Dining Hall.
