Hi. I just took a look at your line of descent from LTC Nathaniel Pope and I have a coulpe of questions.
FIRST question: How were you able to determine Clara Horton's middle name to be "Alsop"?
According to 'Burke's American Families with British Ancestry' by Sir John Bernard Burke (p.2869) her middle name was "Pomeroy".
SECOND Question: You have John Pope (1848-1941) as the son of Maj. Gen. John Pope and Clara Alsop Horton. I do not see any sources cited and I'm curious as to how you were able to relate the child to the parents or to establish the child's year of birth as 1848?
According to 'A Genealogy of The Pope Family of Kentucky' (p.5), John and Clara had three children at the time of the book's writing: Horton, John, and Lucretia. Another child, Francis, was born in 1876 after the book was written.
Focusing on the child John... According to the 1880 U.S. Federal Census for Fort Leavenworth Military Reservation, Leavenworth, Kansas, John was 13 years old in 1880, meaning that he was born abt. 1867.
Sir John Bernard Burke, in the book and page previously cited, estimated the child's (John Horton Pope's) year of birth to have been abt. 1869.
His exact date and place of birth is given as 16 December, 1866 at Pomeroy, Ohio in his U.S. Passport Application.
THIRD Question: You show John to have married America Blake with whom he fathered Alonzo Pope in 1870. Would you mind sharing marriage details so that I can take a look at those records, please?
There are two reasons why I ask...
First reason is that Sir John Bernard Burke, in the book and page previously cited, has that John Horton Pope married Hope Cox in abt. 1896. There is no mention of a previous marriage.
Second reason is that if Burke, the census, and the passport application are all correct then John Horton Pope would have been only FOUR (4) years old when Alonzo Pope was born... which is an impossibility.
