Hi, Kathie,

How nice to hear from you!

Hartman left Western NY, where I live, around 1855-60 and we couldn't find him for years! Finally, another "cousin" found him in the CA census. His first wife, Susan, remarried and moved to MI but my branch stayed local to WNY. Do you know why Hartman moved to CA? We haven't found any records for marriage or divorce for him here. I would love to share stories and will contact you via your e-mail.

Molly

I am researching this family and would be interested in sharing / discussing.

My primary interest is the Leadabrand family (various spellings). It appears that the older Hartman came to the U.S. as a Hessian soldier (hired by England) to fight in the Revolutionary war. He seems to be a cousin of my ancestor, Henry Leadabrand. I have obtained several generations of German ancestry, including Hartman.

I see your post is old, but hope you can respond to me.

Hi, I am definitely interested in sharing information and am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond. The Hartman I mentioned here was born around 1831 in Albany, NY. He is the son of Henry Littlebrant (b. bef. 1800) and Almina Alma. Henry's father, Hartman, born before 1755, is most likely the Hartman you mention. He was married to Mary Bell Bardalet. How intereting that he was a Hessian soldier! I wonder if many of them stayed here? Please let me know if these names and dates seem to connect correctly with your information. The alternative spellng of the surname is new to me. Molly
