My own family served, as did those of many others. My Father in Army, my grandfather and three of his brothers were all Master Mariners in the Merchant Navy and other two brothers served in the New Zealand Army (long story but some of the family emigrated to New Zealand in 1924), others didn't. Eldest brother Robert was killed in action during First World War.

6320 Private John McCreadie, 15 Battalion, Australian Imperial Force served and died during First World War. His grandfather and my great-great-great-grandfather were brothers. If you wish, send me a note at

and I'll forward you my research on his life.

I served a total of 25 years in two Services; Royal Navy in Britain and Royal Australian Air Force after I emigrated.
