I think we may be talking about 2 different Alfed Cooks. My Alfred was born 1842 and died 1918. His father was James Cook 1810-1880 married to Rebecca Richardson, Richerson. They had 7 kids Nancy, Alfred, William, James, Samuel, Laura and Thomas. This branch of the Cooks has primarily lived in the SC lowcountry since the early to mid 1700's. It is speculated that our ancestor may have been an indentured servant or sailor that came from Barbados, possible Melungeon decent. Alfreds' father James was brother to John our ggg-grandfather.
