Yes it is the same one. And I will type in what his daughter put in the book of the History of Nanton, Alberta, Canada.
My information said his mother and father was James and Mary Gahn. Had a sister named Edith and a half sister named Ivy. His half sister was the mother of Harry Von Zell, former actor on the George Burns and Gracie Allen show.
Henry left home at the early age of eleven and from then on made his own way in the world. He went to Oregon and worked for Dr. Robertson. In 1910 he and Dr. Robertson arrived by train during the cold winter months to the Nanton district. Dr Robertson was one of the first medical doctors to settle at Nanton.
Mr. Gahn was a devoted life member of the Oddfellows and the Masons. He also held a life of membership with the Nanton Curling Club. He was builder and contractor by trade but owned a half section of land north-east of Nanton, which still belongs to the estate. He never farmed but rented the land to tenants.
Many times Henry's profession took him out of town. He built as far north as Blackfalds and Red Deer, south as far as Fort Macleod, east to Vulcan, and west to Field, B.C. and into the foothills where he did a lot of building on the ranches of W. A. Crawford-Frost and A.E. Cross. In the immediate area he built homes for many of the residents. He also built many barns on of which is still standing three miles south of High River on the old highway. He built the Anglican Church, and the Skating and Curling Rink which was later destroyed by fire. He donated a lot of his time to the building of the United Church in Nanton. Mr. Gahn often told how his workers managed to get a much needed rest during the long hard days. This was done by merely telling a good joke and Mr. Gahn was always a willing listener.
In 1910 he was married to Ivah Neal, who was born at Red Cross, Indiana (which is the area they call Yockey in Mitchell, Indiana now) in 1887. She was the daughter of James and Nancy Neal. Mrs. Gahn forefathers were early American pioneers in Virginia. Before her marriage she taught school in Indiana.
There were five children, Mrs Tony Shumka (Kathleen) Nanton, Alberta: Henry Kenneth Gahn, San Jose, California.(Spent many years in American Air Force): Mrs Frank Reid (Mabel) Winipeg, Manitoba: Mrs Gordon Dibble (Norma) Sundre, Alberta. Mrs Bill Shaw (Wanda) Nanton, Alberta/
In 1955 Mr. Gahn died after a brief illness. Mrs Gahn passed away in 1969 after failin in health for several years. Athe the time of Mrs. Gahns death there were five children, twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. This is the end of the article.
They have Henry's birthday as October 1, 1879 and he died April 3, 1955.
I have more information on Mrs. Gahn if you would like it too.
