I descent from William Poage s/o Robert and Elizabeth
Preston Poage. William and his wife Anne Kennedy Wilson
also moved to KY. They were at Fort Harrodsburg and are
buried at the Fort. Their daughter Martha married James Hanna. Their daughter Margaret married Thomas Ellis in
Mercer Co. KY. They moved on to Montgomery Co. IN.
My great grandfather Henry Clay Ellis came over to Rossville,
IL. All of his family remaind in this area. We visited Stauton
VA last summer and saw the house of Robert and his son
John. The church they gave land for and the cemetery where
Robet and Elizabeth are buried. Will fwd pictures via the
internet to any one that would like to see them.

Hi! I'm also descended from Robert and Elizabeth, and their son William is also my direct ancestor. You said you'd have info you'd share and pictures, I would definitely pay to get copies of anything you have! Please let me know. I will be leaving for Ireland tomorrow, but if you also happen to know here in Ireland they came from, email me at mcnabbuc@netzero.net as I'll retrieve the messages from there. Thanks so much!

The immigration documents I have, have William emigrating with them to the US, and therefore imply he was born in Ireland. I wonder which is correct! Interesting.

Lee Ann, The Poage-Poague-Pogue can be found in County Amtrim. In the town of Antrim there is a place called Pogues Intry, Tourist Information. Here you will find a cottage once lived inb by a Pogue. Across the street from it is a place called Pogues News Agency. I was there in 1995. Went into the News Agency to see if a Pogue really owned it. He did, but had left for the day not to return for a couple of days. As we had to venture on, missed him. There was also a Pogue Tavern up the street. Found it had nothing to do with Pogue, probably just so named for tourisum purposes. I did a few hours research in Belfast, at the Records Office. Found the Poage & Pogue names, Robert, William and the like, but no way to be sure if they were ours. It is a place you need to spend days not a few short hours. Everything I have seen, seems to say they were from County Antrim. Records are very hard to come by back that far. I understand they are doing a lot now in filming the old Parish records. Good luck on your trip. I would like to know of your success on your return.

In the passenger list I have found, Thomas the last child fo Robert & Elizabeth is the only one not listed. He was born in America. So with William being on the Passenger List, that pretty well documents him born in Ireland.

Hi Betty! Thanks for the info, unfortunately I didn't get it before I left! I wasn't very lucky at finding info at all, though I was mainly looking for info on my great great grandfather Patrick McNabb mainly (he's from county down). Thanks again, must run, off to work.

Margaret Poage Descendants who went to Kentucky

Posted: 10 Oct 2003 2:34AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Poage, Robertson, Givens, Bryant
Children of James Robertson and Margaret Poage who went to Kentucky include:

Robert Robertson, who went first to Red Banks, Kentucky, had an illegitimate son, Solomon George Bryant, with Martha Bryant, and married Louise Sugg, died in Hopkins County, Kentucky. When Robert was in Red Banks, he worked at "Billy Robertson's salt works". I cannot confirm it, but suspect this may have been his uncle, William Robertson.

Daughter, Elizabeth Robertson, who married Samuel Givens, died in Bourbon, Kentucky.

Daughter, Martha Robertson, who married Allen Givens, died in Butler, Kentucky.

Daughter, Jane Robertson, who married Eleazar Givens, died in Hopkins County, Kentucky, and was named in her brother Robert's will.
