The
Missaukee County Historical Society has a DVD available which includes many names and photos of the Mitchell
Bros lumber company in
Jennings. In the early 1920's lumbering came to an end in
Jennings. The town of
Jennings was moved including church's and homes to Cadillac, Mi. The Lutheran Church was moved to Lake City. The moving of this church was followed by newspapers all over the United States. A special moving trailer was built in Cadillac.
For many years
Jennings was called a ghost town, but only because it used to have over 2,000 inhabitants, the population went from 2,000 to about 200. The photos of
Jennings in its heyday and after the mill closed are shocking. The lake in
Jennings was polluted for decades and only recently was the lake clean up completed.
