Hi Bill, thanks for the quick reply. Agreed on the difficulty of this task. Ellen Lynch was my GGgrandmother on my fathers side. I was searching for more info on her to prepare for an upcoming research trip to Ireland. I visited a cemetery (a week ago) St. Paul's in Norwood est. 1828 and found the original Mahoney family plot, and buried next to their parents Jeremiah and Ellen, were Ellena, (called Lena ) wife of Michael Lynch and Bridget, wife of James Lynch ( I believe they had 2 sons) . Quite interesting for me. Have you found anything more on Ellen Lynch. On my next trip 'home' I have one more area cemetery to investigate. What is your connection to the Lynch's of this area. Sandra

Sandra, That is all I have on Ellen.. I am the Great Great Grandson of Michael Lynch & Johanna Young. I am certain of this but then everything gets kind of mixed up as to who was who...Michael Francis' Lynch, husband of Helena, parents were Edward Lynch and Mary McMartin. I "think!!" My Michael Lynch may have been the Brother of Edward Lynch..Here is why and it isn't much...I found that My gggrandparents were the god parents of Michael Francis son of Edward...I have been trying for years to piece the families together and have a bunch of various church records(St. Peter in Chains Cathedral & Sacred Heart Church)Here is another twist...I have a friend in this area, Munger, MI, Don Lynch, and his family also comes from Peterborough area..he has a bible page that says;
"Thomas Lynch born in the town of Bandon, Co. Cork, Mother's name was Mary Russell his father name Tom Lynch there were five boys and 3 girls Kate, Lizzie, Johana, Mike, John, Ed, James boys all came this country with Mother the year before McKenzie war worked on Gennesse Valley Canal came to Peterboro about 1842 to work on dams lived in Peterborough till 1875 came to Bay City Mich and died in 1880 10 day mar, buried in St. Patrick Cemetery.
Canal dugabout 1825 boats towed by mules or horses."
The son Thomas is the one that came to Michigan that we know of and he is the ancestor of my friend Don Lynch..
I think that my Michael and Edward were the Mike and Ed on this bible page. But we have been "UNABLE TO PROVE IT FOR SURE YET!!) I emphasize this because I sent this bible page to a woman and told her it was speculation and she put it on the Internet as Gospel...To further complicate things for my friend Don This Thomas Lynch had a son Thos that had a daughter Ellen that married a Thomas Lynch from a diff family in the Area...So By Now I must have you totally confused....Bill

Bill, this tale makes me re-define my earlier statement agreeing to the difficulty of this Lynch family!!!
I believe I understand the relationships here, and I will keep it in mind going forward. I have yet to find the parents and origin of Ellen Lynch who was the same generation and Edward and Mary McMartin and your Michael . If anything seems relevant I will keep you in mind. Thanks for the input and Good Luck in your search. Cheers, Sandra

Surnames: Lynch, McMartin, Barry, Considine, Young
The wonderful Rosemary McConkey, a local Peterborough researcher, has just had a breakthrough in this mystery through painstaking research through the land transaction records. In Oct. 1841 James, John, and Edward Lynch(McMartin) bought land in Ontonabee on the same day and virtually side by side. Michael Lynch(Young) then buys a portion from John in 1846. While Michael may have come via Galway, other records indicate they were from Cork and this bible quote is the most specific of all. Rosemary believes John Lynch(Barry) above may be a cousin, as an 1865 Peterborough newspaper article states a John Lynch from Oil Springs, Pennsylvania died while visiting his brother James Lynch in Ontonabee. Or, James Lynch(Considine) above may be the cousin. Further investigation on this is ongoing. There is quite a bit of data I will upload in the next few days and open the tree. Currently, I am on the road.
