Do you know if the bogo ybanez are related to the tabogon ybanez? My great great great grandfather was from tabogon. This was before the spanish-american war but after the claveria decree. I am trying to make a connection between the bogo and tabogon ybanez. Maybe you can help. Thanks!

My 3xgreatgrandpa's name was Severo Ybanez. I think he was born in spain and came to the philippines around the 1800. His real name was Severo Bracamonte. He adopted his mother's lastname "Ybanez" because as I was told, he was running away from the authorities. He lived in intramuros before fleeing to tabogon and adopting the "Ybanez" lastname. My grand aunt said that he came from a Bracamonte royal bloodline in Spain.

there are other bracamonte familys in the philippines i spoke with 2 but none of them match our family history so i guess they are descended from the bracamonte that was a judge in manila back in the 16th century. my lolo said severo was from madrid spain.

My great great grand father is from Bogo, Cebu. Yes the story was told to us that they are big family I think 14 with Spanish and Chinese roots. My Great great grand father originally from Bogo went on his own to Masbate and his name is Epifanio Ybanez. He sired 4 sons in Masbate one is Eduardo Ybanez my grandfather. Originally its Ybanez but it was later changed to Ibanez they said it was in school that the surname was changed during American occupation. They are one of the old rich in Cebu with hacienda. My great great grandfather and his sons were copra merchants and has their own coconut plantations. In Masbate there are many Ibanez most of whom are related by blood. I was also told the same story, they went separate ways to Mindanao, Masbate, Visayas and Luzon. My great great grand father never went back to Bogo Cebu even if he was found to be in Masbate and he was asked to go back. His Spanish blood was thicker and he had a dispute with his parents that made him swore in a true spanish character, that no matter what happens he and his descendants would never go back to Bogo, Cebu and true enough nobody did. One can see his death record in San Fernando, Masbate called also known as Isla I think.

In follow up to my contribution to your search. All I know is that the Ybanez from Bogo are all related as there was only one Ybanez clan from Bogo at that time. Whether the Ybanez clan from Bogo came from the one from Tabogon that settled is not clear but one thing is clear in all our conversations from our oldies regarding our roots, if an Ybanez or now Ibanez would trace his/her root from Bogo, Cebu they said we are of the same blood and true relatives. We were also told that the family root in Bogo, Cebu can ultimately traced its ancestry from royal bloodline in Spain.
