The first Peavy/Peevy families in Vernon-then Rapides Parish, La were John William, James F. and Joshua A Peevy, their mother Martha and some of her children. I have a lot of the early generations from those brothers-not much on the latest ones. Contact the Vernon Historical Society at the History Museum or just the library-there are a bunch of Peavy/Peevy researchers still around and they would be happy to help. Louise Troth

I am not sure which one you are looking for-the first John Peavy/Peevy to move to Rapides Parish, now Vernon, was John William and his wife Caroline Coon. His brothers Joshua and James and their grandchildren all seemed to use the same names over and over. See my message above for further contacts. Louise Troth

I did not know Susie Peavy so I don't know if she was indeed a Pursey or Pursley. I appreciate your response to my request, though.
Sincerely,

My ggrandfather was William F Peavy. He had two sons that I know of my grandfather, James Minor Peavy and Joshua Peavy. Joshua Peavy never married and James married Meller Blackwell of Simpson, La. James and Meller had three children, Iva, Jay, and Hazel. Iva married Henry Free, Jay married Delia Williams, and Hazel married Almon Walters. Jay Peavy was my father and we lived in Slagle, La. Iva and Hazel are buried at Pine Island Cemetary in Simpson, La. Jay is buried in the Leesville Cemetary.
