Karen,
We're trying to trace an Annabelle Lauchlan m to Robert Scoular of Patie's Mill, Newmilns, Ayrshire, mid 1700's.
She may have come from outside Ayrshire.

Karen and Agnes,

I am research information regarding William Lachland (could be Lachlan, Lauchlin, Lauchline). He would have been born about 1720. He had 2 sons that I know of, Samuel Lachland, b. 5/28/1744, Newton-upon-Ayr, Ayrshire, and William Lauchland, b. 1/1754, baptized 1/20/1754, Newton-upon-Ayr, Ayrshire.
William Sr. was married to a Jane Cook. Jane had a brother, Samuel. Samuel married Jean Mitchell and they had at least one child, Isobel.
William Sr. and Jane came to America about 1770 (plus or minus 5 years). Samuel Lachland married before coming to America, but to whom I don't know.
Samuel also fathered a Samuel and a William. Samuel Jr. is my 4th great grandfather, who was possibly born in Scotland, 8/8/1770. Samuel Jr's brother, William, was born in 11/11/1774 in GA.
I'm wondering if there might be a connection of Annabelle to these William(s) and Samuel(s).

There is an Easter (sic) (shown as Ester in the IGI) Laughland buried in Loudoun kirkyard she was married to James Houston. The dates are illegible but they died in the 1800's.
The second gravestone is for Mary Cook married to Robert Stark. Mary died in 1889 aged 65 years. Just thought you'd like a note of these in case they tie up with your research. My Annabella Laughlan was born 1772 and died 1804.

Agnes,

Thank you very much for the information. As you said, they may connect somewhere in my family at a later date. Were the headstone photos taken by you?

We're in the midst of a gravestone survey at Loudoun kirkyard as there are no official records of burials and many of the gravestones are deteriorating or being damaged by vandals. The gravestones are the only records so if they're lost - so is all the information. They are all being photographed, and inscriptions recorded in detail, once that is complete, we will be puting the info onto CD Rom and submitting to all relevant offices such as Ayrshire Archives, local council office etc. We will also add it to our web site. Unfortunately to save storage space, we downsized the photos using "resize" not realising by doing that, we'd also lose some of the pixels. It means that many of the stones will now have to be re-photographed to show clearer inscriptions. We have been trying to get information from families of those buried at Loudoun kirkyard especially if they have evidence of Loudoun kirkyard burials = perhaps from a death cert. It is quite confusing though as three churches in the area have Loudoun in their name and Loudoun Kirk is also a village.

Hello:
I saw your message which appeared on the Ayrshire list today and with my luck, this is not the same McLaughlin family. In my tree, there is a Hugh McLaughlin born ? who married Agnes Bell, probably in Stevenston, Ayrshire in 1887. I don't know his parents names.

James W. McLauchlan(b.1804) (gggrandfather) is the beginning of our tree at this time. He was born in Scotland, but no one seems to know where. I have a relative doing research who has been to Scotland and England twice...has found the old schoolhouse in Crook, Durham County, England where he taught..but as of this time unable to find his definite place of birth. He was married to Elizabeth White and they had five children, the first, John (ggrandfather) came to the US with most of his children (grown). I believe other siblings remain in UK....or Canada. After his first wife died at age 33, he later married Ann Thompson and they had two children.
