Greetings. I would love to join the discussion about the
STANGE family.
The name STANGA is the current spelling of the family name, though we know that the original
German was
STANGE. I don't know if my lineage is even close to yours but its worth an attempt, as we know very little about them.
We know that August
STANGE (6 June 1837 - 10 November 1926) married Wilhelmine Christian (12 October 1832 - 24 January 1905) and they had six children:
Emilie
L. Wilhelmine "
Mina"
Karl "Charles" Frank
Franz "Frank"
Anna
August Jr.
Part of my interest was sparked when you mentioned the connection with
Wisconsin and I wondered if the
STANGE family moved there in large numbers.
According to some records we have, Karl (or Carl) "Charles" Frank
STANGE was born in Fond du Lac County,
Wisconsin.
According to an immigration log from 1866, however, the first three children were born in Germany. That log (Germans in
America volume 18, June 1866 - December
1866, edited by Ira A. Glaz and P. William Filb____) records a
Mina (would be consistent with Wilhelmnine)
STANGE as being 32 (in 1866) and having the following children:
Emilie (age 7 thus born about 1859)
Mina (age 5 thus born about 1861)
Carl (age 3 thus born about 1863)
Frederike (infant)
The record states that she came without a husband. They sailed from
Hamburg, Germany, to
New York on the ship
Washington, arriving on 23 November 1866.
If any of these names, dates, or what have you even remotely might have a connection, it would be great to discuss.
