My maternal grandparents were from Catalonia, Ramiro Monfort and Caridad Mir, and lived in Regla, Cuba. My paternal grandparents were from Asturias and Islas Canarias, Jose Maria Hernandez Llerena and Maria Josefa Suarez Cabrera, who also lived in Regla and Havana. My maternal grandmother's parents were Francisco Suarez Alvarez and Juana Cabrera Pereira.

Segun mis investigaciones hubo unos cuantos de apellido "Mir" que migraron de España a Puerto Rico. Por ejemplo: Esteban Mir, natural de Blanes, Gerona (1834); Salvador Mir, natural de Vilasa, Cataluña (1836); Jose Mir Eloy, natural de Lerida, Lerida (1881); Pablo Mir Palet, natural de Terrasa, Barcelona (1835); y tres hermanos Mir Pasaperas natural de Blanes, Gerona (1834). DELIO EMMANUEL MIR-PUPO

There was a Pupo family in Oriente, that were descended from Miguel Jerónimo Ponce de León y Góngora and María del Rosario González de Rivera y Leiva, who were married in 1731, probably in Bayamo. The name Pupo was a corruption of Ponce de León. See Historia de familias cubanas, volume IX, p. 201.

My great-grandmother was Rosa Pupo, born in Mallorca, Spain and later moved to Cuba where my grandmother, Maria Julia Pupo was born in Gibara in September 1886 and later married Manuel Sanchez before immigrating to the United States in the early 1900s. I am researching the Pupo surname. I have not been able to find any of the male lineage so far.

I don't wish to confuse anyone but I decided to share some information I found by chance. While searching for a relative in the 1810 Louisiana census I found an Henry W. (?) Mir and a Paul Mir. They both lived in St. James Parish. Henry's family consisted of a male less than 10 years old, a male 26 to 45, a female less than 10, 2 females from 10 to 16, a female 26 to 45 and 3 slaves. Paul's family consisted of 4 males less than 10 years old, a male 16 to 26, a male 26 to 45, 2 females 16 to 26 and 4 slaves. I hope this information helps someone. My great-great-great-grandmother was Maria del Pilar MIR Acosta. She was born in Regla, Havana, Cuba in about 1776 and died in Regla about 1863. She married Thomas Clark, from Nottingham, England in 1799. They had 15 children, all of them were born in Regla and some moved out to some other parts of Cuba.

My great-great-grandfather, Diego Andres Clark MIR was born in Regla in 1802 and died in Cardenas, Matanzas, Cuba in 1883. He married in Regla to Antonia Gregoria Dominguez Nicolich, who was born in San Agustin, Florida, USA in 1805 and died in Cardenas, Matanzas, Cuba in 1842. They had 9 children.

One of the childre, Diego Gonzalo Clark Dominguez was born in Regla in 1826 and died in Cienfuegos, La Villas, Cuba in 1914. All the other children were born in Cardenas

My grandfather's name was Raul Ruiz Pupo from Banes, Oriente.His father was from Spain, but his mother was born in Cuba. I don't know anything else about my great grandmother.

I would love to share the information I have. I made a mistake, though, I am the 2nd great grandson or Tatara nieto of Luis Mir (I think). Until the revolution, our family was still working the land in and around Mir. I recently came from there and have pictures, although I don't think you will agree it is a big, bustling town. My uncle, Ediberto Mir was the last to own any land before the revolution. His father (also Ediberto Mir) had a brother name Belarmino (spelling?) who still has relatives in Mir today. I have pictures of both. My cousin, Hector Jose Mir, may have pictures of Luis Mir. If all this is rings true to you then we are "parientes". I heard of another Mir who was a printer in San German where Don Berlarmino would get his stationary printed(He, Don B., had an almecen or general store). I visited Don Berlarmino's daughter, Amalia, in Havana. She is in her eighties. I visited a lot of relatives and, along with my cousin Hector Jose, we are trying to come up with a family tree of the Mirs. Again I would love the opportunity to share any and all information at my disposal, share with you my trip to Cuba to find out more about my / our family and any pictures I took while traveling there.

From that the town developed as we know the town of Mir which I heard is quite large now. I spoke with my mother, who grew up in Mir and Holguin, and she seems to remember that her father's uncle, Don Berlarmino Mir, donated the land to the rail road company and not Luis. She remembers that it was more out of gratitude, than by condition, that the station was called Mir. Don Berlarmino also lived at Martí 27 in Holguin, one block away from the Galixto Garcia Central Park. My mother can't recall if Luis was Don Berlarmino's brother or cousin, but she seems pretty sure that it wasn't Luis who donated the land. Because many of our relatives names repeat (Ediberto, Belarmino, Luis, Jose etc.) generation after generation, your assistance would be a lot of help to clarify the exact relationships. Thanks.

I just received news that my uncle Edilberto Mir, broke his hip. Edilberto (or Nene) was one of the last Mir who owned property, the farm, in Mir (the town). I may visit him this May.
