I am looking for information in regards to the history of a building on SR64 in Hardee County Fl. The building has a sign "Popash" over the front door. Any help would be appreciated.

People say its haunted. I really don't know. I went into the library to look at some old county newspapers, however didn't not find anything about popash. But, I've heard stories like that a school teacher went crazy and shot all the kids in her class or that some crazed man went into the school and shot everyone. I hear stuff like that, weather its true, I don't know. But, it is scary when you go there at night.

I saw this place on September 10th, 2001 while on vacation. I actually have a good number of pictures that we took of the inside and outside. It is definately a creepy place, but I doubt its haunted...just really spooky...

Can you email me the pictures you have of Popash School? My Grandfather went to school there.
Back in the 1980's I lived near the Popash School. I can remember going up into it...but personally I never felt like it was haunted. I just thought it was such a neat old place.
My step-father said that he can remember when he was going to school back in the 60's that after Popash had closed down as a school that there was a girl that lived there that his school bus stopped and pick up. So it was not only a school. But a family lived in it as well.
Also, if there's anyone out there that has older pictures of Popash, please email them to me at cbumbyallen@wmconnect.com

Thanks,

Thanks to the gentleman who furnished the 1925 photo of Popash school. The photo looks like it was taken soon after construction was completed. Does anyone know when it was completed? Obviously, Popash was a larger community in the 1920s. I understand that a railroad was expected to go through the town at a certain point in history, but bypassed the area completely. Could this have caused the community to diminish? Assuming that the county owns the property, does it have any plans for the building other than ultimate demolition? If there were other tourist attractions nearby it would make a superb bed and breakfast.
