Sorry no proof. I have only gone by what others have been saying and what was in Dr. George Ridenour's records he kept of people he did research on. No census records have her name since she died before the 1850 census. Can't find a marriage record and the pension records have his new wife on them. I wish I could find something. The only thing that seems to have Peter's name on it is the tax records and census records and his pension records and settlement records. Nothing else that I can find.

I've ran into a lot of people that are descended from Sarah and Robert Housley. Still can't find any one that knows who Peter's father was. Only speculation. Sure is a puzzle. I'm descended from Alvis the first son born in 1811. I have heard that story about Peter's father being in the Rev War and defecting and staying here in America. My cousin Lawrence Cooper grew up around my great Grandfather George W. Cooper son of Alvis and Lawrence said George had told him about Peter's father being in the Rev War and defecting and started our Cooper family in America. He told me some other stuff about our family too in several letters. He lives in Indiana. He couldn't remember him telling him a name though. He wanted me to find out if I could get the names of Peter's parents. I've been working on it a lot. So is a lot of other people. All I have on Peter's second wife is her name is Rebecca Burton born 1800-1802 VA m Jan 24, 1844. d. Apr 1880. She had a son named Charles Burton b. 1841 TN. In 1850 census of Campbell Co TN there was a Moriah Burton b. ca 1780 VA. Don't know if she is Rebecca's mother or (according to George L. Ridenour) a sister who married a Burton. I don't know where Rebecca is buried. I haven't found her. I have Barbara dying about the same time as you since I got it from other researchers. He of course married Rebecca in 1844 so it would be before that. Since Peter's first child that we know of) was born in 1811 he would be married before that. I figure about 1810. I have 12 possibly 13 children for Peter and Barbara or who over he married. I have Alvis Mar 1811, Mary Jane 1813, Jane 1815-20, Barbara 1817, George Washington (not sure a son) 15 Nov 1819, Sarah 17 Mar 1821, Catherine (Katy) 1823, Eli Aug 1825, Rebecca 1827, James 1829, Sophia 1831, Henry 1836, Milton 2 Jan 1840. Then there is Charles Burton son of Peter's second wife Rebecca. He was born 1841. I have spouses for most of them too. I will put your email in my Cooper folder so I can have it to refer to. Thanks.

I've been following the duscussion of Peter & Barbara with interest; I'm descended through their daughter Sarah, who married Robert Housley.
First, regarding Peter's parents: I have no proof, but when I first started my genealogy, I was led to believe that Peter's father may have been a Thomas Cooper, a British soldier during the Revolutionary War who defected. I think there was a Thomas Cooper in the Campbell Coounty tax lists around 1820 or so. Don't know if this is the same Thomas.

Second, I don't have anything on Peter's second wife - so if someone could help me with that, I'd appreciate it!

I have Barbara dying between 1841 & 1844 - again, any help on that is appreciated; also the marriage date for Peter & Barbara that I have is "before 1821" - anyone have anything specific?

I have 10 children listed for Peter & Barbara. I won't list them all here but I'd be happy to exchange information with anyone who's interested.

Tom

I think i have the info but off the top of my memory I think Peter Cooper married Clara Ridenour and they had a daughter Barbara Cooper. Let me know if you think this is true. My records are out of order and I'm in the process of getting them together. Angie

Well I only have info I have gotten from others that say Peter married Clara Ridenour. The only written proof I have is a death certificate of his youngest son Milton. It says his mother was Clara Ridenour. If I could get the whole set of Peter Cooper's military records it should say his wife's name. I don't know where to send for them right now. I haven't had time to look for it. I wish he had left a will but then that wouldn't help either. She would already be gone by then. I have Peter's pension records but it only has his second wife in it. Sure is a hard line to work on. Too many records are missing. Let me know if you get your papers in order and find what you have on him. Nice talking to you.

Hi I ordered the complete set of Peter Cooper's pension records but there was nothing on his first wife. I don't know if they sent the whole set or not. There was no medical records which I requested. So I think they didn't send me the whole set. There are a few more pages than the original set I got but nothing of any help. I have a scanner now so I can send copies of papers and pictures. I don't know how to send it to a board yet or whatever you call it but I'm learning. Thanks for the new email address.

Hi yes this is my Peter Cooper. But his first son is Alvis not Arvis. Alvis was my grgrgrandfather. His son George W. was my gr grandfather and his son James was my grandfather. George and his wife Mary Polly Evans moved to Harlan Co KY. That is where my dad was born. Several people have said Peter's father was Thomas Cooper. I haven't seen any proof of it yet. I have a piece of paper a cousin sent me that was in the back of an old picture that says Peter's father was in the Rev War and was killed by his horse when he was old. I was told that story by a cousin in Indiana who grew up around my grandfather and great grandfather George Cooper. I can you a copy of the paper. I have a scanner. I have been working on this line a long time. Always come to a dead end. But several people are working on it now and finding different things. I have Milton Cooper's death certificate that says his mother was Clara Ridenour. I haven't checked to get any of the other children's death certificates yet. Well nice to hear from another cousin. I used to write to Milton's grandson who lived in southern Calf about 2 hours from me. He passed away though. He was a great grandson of Peter Coopers. Peter is my grgrgr grandfather. Milton was the youngest son so he was born way later. Well bye for now. Write back.

My husband is supposedly descended from Alvis Cooper as well. His ggg grandfather was Alvis's son Fielding Lowe Cooper according to family history. Have you heard of this person? If so, do you have any information on him? I have that he was born in June 1852 in Campbell county and died April 20, 1937 in Harlan Co. KY.
