MY CURRY FAMILY came to Ga. from Spartenburg S.C. c.1830's. They lived in NEWTON CO. & CARROLL CO. (moved to Carroll Co. in 1860).

WILLIAM CURRY was b. 1824 in S.C. His brother NATHANIEL was born c.1818 also in S.C. They were the only CURRY'S living in NEWTON CO. GA. when 1940 Fed. Census taken.

WILLIAM enlisted in 34th GA. Infantry Regiment 3344, Unit 382 on May 13, 1862 in Carroll Co., Ga. The unit was sent to Tenn, then Miss., where it was assigned to T.H. Taylor's Brigade, Dept of Miss and E La. It participated in the battle at CHAMPION'S HILL (http://www2.cr.nps.gov/abpp/battles/ms009.htm) and was captured halfway between Jackson & Vicksburg, Miss. in July 1863 (WILLIAM DIED approx. July 4, 1863 so probably in this battle.

WILLIAM m. MARY HAMMOCK in 1848. They had 4 children. MARY raised them alone after WILLIAM's death in 1863. She moved to BLOUNT CO., ALA after the War, living next door to her youngest son, JOHNATHAN, housekeeping for them.

If you have any information on this family that might help me find MARY's or WILLIAM's death dates or other pertinent info, I would appreciate your email. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
