Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
James William Smith is the son of William and Elizabeth Smith. He is the brother of my great-grandmother, Jemima Smith. We believe William (1839-1888) is yet another son of John and Sarah Smith though I see that he is not presently listed as offspring. William does fit in the birth order after Ann#2 and before Thomas. William and Thomas lived side-by-side in Baine Harbour. Their sons then acquired the properties and continued to live there.
I'm working with a NF genealogist now to try to find proof that William is indeed another sibling.

Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
Would you know if James William and Jemina had a sister Elizabeth Adelaine? There was also someone else in the family referred to as "Poppy" might that have been Jemina? Elizabeth had two children before she married James Lush and both were put up for adoption, Theodore and Raymond, would you have known about them?
Thank You Jack Connors

Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
Hi Jack. I do not know of any other siblings of J.W. and Jemima, but I wonder as there is so many years between their births. Sorry, but I have not run into any of these names you have questioned me on.

Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
What's the date range of birth for Theodore Smith? My great grandmother (Anne Smith Johnson) had a nephew Ted who was adopted by her brother in law Aaron Johnson and was living in Jacques Fontaine, Fortune Bay. I never knew who his parents were.

Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
Theodore was born in 1901. We have that he was adopted by Joseph and Elizabeth Johnson of Jacques Fontaine, Newfoundland. Is Aaron and Joseph the same person?

Re: John Smith - Oderin > St.Patricks Island > Baine Harbour
I've done some research since my initial posting. William is the son of John and Sarah Smith. His baptism is recorded in the Burin Holy Trinity Angligan Church records. His birth date is listed as Sep 30 1838 and he was baptised Jul 29 1839. He was baptised the same day as a sister Elizabeth who was born Dec 26 1835. I don't have any other information on this sister. For some reason they are listed under the Methodist baptisms, but as far as I know they were all Anglican so it may have been recorded in error. I have a death date of Apr 22 1888 for him. His wife Elizabeth died in Baine Harbour Dec 25 1909.
I only have record of two children of William and Elizabeth, Jemima who married Robert Shute Sep 14 1895 in Burnt Islands, Placentia Bay and James William who married Alice Rebecca {maiden name unknown}.
Hope this helps get you started.
