Marty,
Yes, my gg grandmother, Nancy Porterfield Jackson was b. in Armstrong Co., PA. She was d/o James Porterfield b. 1766 Middlesex, Armstrong, PA and wife Nancy Guthrie b. 1771 Westmoreland Co., PA. James was s/o Samuel Porterfield b. 1726 Donegal Co., Ireland. Samuel was s/o John Porterfield b. abt 1675 Donegal County, Ireland.
Several families of Jacksons and Porterfields migrated to Mount Erie, Wayne County, IL about 1850. My great granduncle, Samuel P. Jackson (P prob. for Porterfield), brother of my great grandmother, Sarah Jane Jackson Waller, along with his cousin, Samuel A. Porterfield both enlisted in the Union Army 30 Dec1863, both in Co. K, 113th Illinois Infantry. Samuel Jackson and Samuel Porterfield both died during Feb. 1864 at the recruitment camp, Camp Butler, IL. Sam Jackson died of spinal meningitis and I assume Sam Porterfield died of meningitis too. Both are on findagrave.com. Porterfield buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery at Clear Lake near Springfield and Jackson buried at Yohe Cemetery, Mt. Erie.
Samuel A. Porterfield was s/o Nancy's older brother, John Porterfield (Elizabeth Thompson) who also migrated to Mount Erie, IL from PA.
