I have a large Gwinnett File and I have a little bit of information that may be of help to you.
If I don't list sources, it's because I either got it from someone who didn't give a source or
found it without a source and you will just need to use the information to verify if it is
actually correct. As for Rebecca, wife of Joshua Cates, this is what I have:
Joshua Grammar Cates b.3 Jul 1821 Orange Co., NC
d.14 May 1893 Gwinnett Co., GA he married:
Rebecca Frances Davis b.3 Dec 1825 Georgia d. 17 Nov 1881 Gwinnett Co., GA.
I only have one child for them and it is:
Robert Daniel Cates b.12 Sep 1852 Gwinnett Co., GA d. 11 Oct 1920 Gwinnett Co., GA
He married: Mary D. Brand b.Apr 1853 Gwinnett Co., GA d.1930 Gwinnett Co., GA
They had son:
William Clifford Cates b.18 Dec 1900 Lawrenceville, Gwinnett, GA
I don't know her parents, but there is a couple that fit the bill. They are found on the1850
Federal Census for 36th Division, Harbins District, Gwinnett, GA (24 Oct)
Richard Davis age 75 Farmer with 800 property value b.SC
Frances Davis age 65 b.GA
I have no notes and that makes me think that someone sent me the information and didn't give me
any sources. I strongly believe in citing your sources, but when you don't have them, I still feel I
need to record what I got and go from there. I'm always embarassed to send something without
a source.....but it still can be useful.
Thats all I have for that family.
Thanks,
Laura
