Maggie,

There are 4 or maybe 5 counties that border Monroe Co. There were river boats that went down to Mobile and up river to most major towns. Any minister could perform weddings. After about 1870 - 75 there were railroads that served cities large and small. People traveled many different ways depending on circumstance.

I do not know the time frame for your marriage, but in 1849 my great grandfather took his bride-to-be to Randolph county GA to be married.

I am searching for marriage records of Monroe County, Alabama on the family name of Dees. The two ladies that I am searching for are Mittie and her sister Mattie. The marriages would probably have occured after 1881.
