Re: Looking for relatives in Europe
I have not been able to identify connections in Prague or Czech as a whole. I am now trying FaceBook and Skype to try to make some connections. Anton and Antonia (Tvrdy) Tvrdik left Europe in 1905 with my dad, Frank J. Tvrdik, in tow. they arrived at Ellis Island in Nov. 1905...we have a manifest to show their arrival. The went to Omaha where they both had some kin...he had the Tvrdiks and she had the Tvrdys. They moved to South East Texas in 1914 and have been here ever since. I have talked to some in Omaha on both sides and they have some recollection but nothing concrete. Still working and hopefully something breaks....thanks and hope to hear soon...Frank

I share the same first and last name of some of your family, but my dad immigrated through Ellis Island in 1905, went to Omaha, Ne. for about 10-11 years and then the family moved to southeast Texas (thank goodness, ha,ha). We have been in this area since and I don't know the direct connection between us and the Tvrdik's in your area, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and other parts of the upper mid-west. My grandfater's name was Anton and my grandmother's name was Antonia (nee Tvrdy). He was a cobbler in the old country and became a farmer after leaving the meat packing business in Omaha due to the constant cold working conditions. I hope this helps and we can make some connections to further our knowledge of our families. Please respond in kind and good luck. Thanks, Frank J. Tvrdik, Jr.!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Looking for relatives in Europe
Hi Frank. You say that your Anton, Antonie, and Frank came in Nov. of 1905? I find them arriving May 3, 1905, Ellis Island. Last residence being Vrbka, Kromeriz, district of Zlin, North Moravia. This Anton is a shoemaker. There are some marriage records on line for that area, but no births for the 1871-1881 time frame. The manifest said they were going to a brother, Frank Tvrdy, in Omaha. This Frank, born May 1860, imm. 1891, had wife Anna, children Joseph, Anna, Frank, Mary, Charles and William. Our immigrant Tvrdy came over in 1876, to Saunders county, Nebraska, and we remain here. I wonder if there could be a connection. Our line came from Racovice, Trebic, South Moravia. Can you send me a copy of your manifest so I can see if I could have found the wrong one.

Re: Looking for relatives in Europe
Jean, which of the children is your husbands parents or grandparents....Joseph, Frank, Charles, William?

Re: Looking for relatives in Europe
Frank, I'm sorry I may have caused some confusion about my Tvrdy family. As far as I currently know, my husbands Tvrdy line does not connect to your Tvrdy line. But, it is possible that they could be cousins somehow. It seems likely since both Tvrdy families came to Nebraska.
The Vrbka baptisms for the year 1871 are not online yet. There is a site called actapublica.com that has births, marriages and deaths from Catholic church records, but it is still in the process of digitizing records. These records are in old German script and sometimes impossible to read. The town Vrbka I am looking into is in the parish of Tesnovie.
I spent some time searching last night and will keep looking for more data. I would feel better about a birth location for your Tvrdy's if another document was found also giving Vrbka as the location. Any information you can add will help.
