Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
I am a grandson of Mildred Taake. John and Mildred Holhubner are buried in a cemetery just north of Villa Ridge, IL on US 51. My father, Elmer George Holhubner, son of John & Mildred, still lives on the family farm in Olmsted, IL. I keep in touch with Dale Taake, son of George Kenneth Taake. They live off of Shawnee College Road on New Hope Cemetery Road. I believe you can reach them at dtaake@shawneelink.net. They could help you further down the Taake line than I can.

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Mark,
This is Jennifer, your cousin Fred's wife. Would like to try and keep in touch with this side of the family. Fred would like to know if you have any other family email addresses. This was a fluke that I have found this information on the web.
Thanks,
Jen

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Jennifer,
Interesting. Received a reply from a Holhubner. Do the Holhubners still live around Carbondale? My grandpa Clarence Luecke's cousin married a Holhubner. Do you know where George Taake's farms were located? Do you know what became of the Tempke/Temke family? Are you familiar with a relative by the name of Don Brown? Do you know what became of him? Do you know where the Taake family lived? My Luecke relatives remember George Taake wearing a bowler hat and suspenders. Supposedly George Taake gave each daughter a farm. He was apparently a very prosperous farmer. The Luecke family home is still standing in Spanish Lake and the current owners take very good care of it.
Are there any other Taake and Temke family relatives living in the Carbondale area or southern Illinois area? One Luecke girl married George Taake and another Luecke girl married a Temke. Both the Taakes and Temkes moved to southern Illinois. There brother, Fred Luecke, Jr. was my great-grandfather.
Thank you Kenn Luecke

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Mark,
Tell your dad that I just received his letter. And wow, he answered a lot of questions. My great-grandfather was Fred Luecke, Jr. He was Minnie Luecke Taake's little brother. Before WWII, there were these family reunions among the Luecke descendants.
I will be calling your dad, but it may be awhile. I have 4 business trips in the next 2.5 months so time will be limited. But I can answer one of his questions, I think. My dad went to the funeral for Oscar Wiese's wife about two years ago and Oscar told my dad that of his brothers and sisters, he was the only one left. That would mean that Clara Wiese Gohlers would have passed on, since Clara was Oscar's sister. I'll try and get some details on this, since I haven't done much work on the Luecke family recently. Vertrees Barlbort Hood can give me some information on this. Barlborts lived next door to my grandparents Clarence & Allouise and Barlborts store was located on Bellefontaine Road.
Tell your dad I really appreciate the letter and the addresses that he provided of the various family members.
Thank you Kenn Luecke

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Jennifer,
I just received a letter from George Holhubner. Wow, he had answers for most of my questions. I will need to follow up with him. Turns out that the Kellers visited him recently and provided some of the information that I sent them.
Take care and thanks Kenn Luecke

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Hi, My grandmother was a cousin of Alvin Schukar, husband of Leola Taake, daughter of George and Minnie Taake. According to my records, Alvin and Leola were married 08 Oct 1938 in Olmsted, Pulaski county, Illinois. They lived in Jonesboro in 1993 when Leola died (15 Oct 1993), and Alvin lived in Pulaski when he died 26 May 1995. They had no children.
Hope that helps. I don't really have anything else on the Taake family, except that in 1900 George and Minnie were in St. Ferdinand, St. Louis county, Illinois.

Re: Taake family of southern Illinois
Hi, Jen. I believe I'm distantly related to your husband through his mother Dolores May Sloan. She was the daughter of Dennis Paul Sloan and Marguerite Klein. Dennis was the son of Isaac Newton Sloan and Ida May Decker, and therefore, half-brother to my grandmother Thelma Olive Sloan, who married Gustave Wilhelm Sawade and produced my mother Merlyn Collis Sawade, who, with my father William Harvey McGinnis, produced me, Debra Jean McGinnis McLamb. Here's the interesting part: neither my mother nor I ever heard of Dennis, even though he was raised by his dad and 2nd wife MInnie Pritchett, at least through 1900, in Mt. Carmel, IL. Dennis had a sister, Mable, and I knew her well. The way they treated each other, I thought she was a full sister to Thelma and her sister Collis. There was also a brother, Charley. So I would love to know about Dennis, Isaac, Ida May and Minnie, since I never knew them. Was there a schism in the family that separated Dennis, or was he just busy with his own life? If you or Fred know anything about them, please let me know. I will attempt to e-mail you this message as well, and thanks for your help.
Deb McLamb
