I am looking for the ancstors of my Great-granfather Frank (Elmore?) MacLean. he served in the House of Representatives for the state of Massachusetts and lived in Lowell Massachusetts (I believe). His children were; Flora, Alice, Ruth, Donald (and maybe two more). His parents immigrated from Scotland. I am eager to know more about him and his family.

MacLean family

Mary MacLean  (View posts) Posted: 28 Jan 2000 11:47PM GMT
My father's family goes back to 1831 when Murdocck Cambell born in Uist, Scotland (!805-1878) came with his wife Mary MacKinnon born on the Isle of Muck (1812-1874)to settle at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The Macleans came from the Isle of Mull in 1820. Murdock and Mary had six children: DonaldMargaret married Angus MacLean and they had 13 chidren. The oldest was hector MacLean who was my great-great grandfather. Hector married Christine MacLean so then I was descended from two MacLean families.
They had six children: margaret, Abby, Hughie, Angus, John Neil(my grandfather)and Mabel. My grandfather married Florence Gertrude Smith and they had three children. John piercey maclean is my father and he had four daughters so our line of Macleans ended with him. I don't know if any of us are related. RSVP

Your Cape Breton Family

Janet Marie McLean  (View posts) Posted: 19 Jun 2000 8:34AM GMT
Mary,
I would like to know if you can help me out. My great-great-great-grandfather was known to my family as Daniel A. MacLean. Yet on his wife's death certificat he signed A. Daniel MacLean. I do know that he was born in 1853 (so he said) on Cape Breton Island. I can not seem to go anywhere from there. Please if you can help I would appreciate it.

I'm very new at this ancestry research but I
can tell you that I have the following Alexander
MacLeans in my family tree...

Father: Alexander Gaylord MacLean Jr.
born in USA 1924
Grandfather: Alexander Gaylord MacLean
Born in USA 1886
Great Great Grandfather: Alexander MacLean
Born in February 1827
Died in January 1917
I haven't been able to find out
where he was born (Scotland or USA)
but I do know he was a machinist by

If any of this matches please let me know!

I was getting a 80th birthday card off to my Uncle Piercey and am always unsteady with the "spelling" of his given name...so I went on to the net and stumbled across this old e-mail exchange between you and my first cousin Mary. My mom and I get to CB a couple times a year and when we do happen to travel the Cabot Trail, my cousin Marjorie Smith, will say "there's where "Red Dan" used to live" and lots of accompanying stories of trips to Red Dan's 60 or 70 years ago. Perhaps that is the Daniel you are searching to identify. I can put you in touch with Marjorie, if you like. Marjorie is getting to be one of the elders now, she is my maternal grandmother's brother's daughter.
