In 1882, Walter (3905) and his wife Maria moved to what is now Palanga House, Abbey Wood Road, Abbey Wood. Walter had spent some years building this dwelling in vernacular style.
Most of his original interior carpentry work and Baltic pine panelling survives to this day. One half of the front ground floor of the building housed 'Roselea Stores'. It is listed in Kelly's Directory. Walter ran this grocers and post office until the early years of the twentieth century. Whereupon the former shop frontage was reconstructed for purely residential use and Walter undertook and oversaw the building, on adjacent land, of three terraced houses one of which abutted his own. His wife, Maria, in her later years was a member of Woolwich and District Antiquarian Society.
