Kathy, I spend the better part of 2 hours on
www.fultonhistory.com and loved it. I did remember the old trick of using quotation marks in my search. That used to be a common trick to use with search engines, but the engines have gotten so good that I got out of the habit of using them. I had incredible luck with them tonight. Only got a couple things on my fraternal grandfather, but I literally found dozens of articles about my maternal grandfather including one that gave the location of the farm he bought after he retired from acting.
The information you guys helped me with about my fraternal grandfather and great grandfather actually helped PROVE my connection. Until now he was only highly suspected due to the circumstantial evidence (mostly based on having my grandfather's exact date and place of birth,) but now I can say without any doubt that William Henry Armstrong IS my great grandfather.
BTW, you were quite correct about my fraternal great grandfather being Catholic, I found an article about him attending the state convention of the Knights of Columbus.
One of my problems is lack of maiden names, AND the identity of my grandfather's mother. A couple of the censuses suggest that my great grandfather was married twice and that my grandfather resulted from the first marriage. That's why I'm going to send for my grandfather's birth certificate first. Once I see it, I'll spend the money for the marriage records so I can know I'm requesting the right one. I know $20 isn't much, but I've got a wife, a teenager, and a 100 pound puppy to feed. LOL
Again, thank you so much for giving me some direction.
Rick
