I was thinking that myself. But I am also thinking that she did know Thomas Jones around the time of 1892 (1893 being the year Kate was born). If she did know him then why didn't they marry either before she had Kate or just after. Its a mystery to me. !!
Job Hayes had no brothers named Thomas Hayes and as far as I know in my research I have found no other Thomas Hayes close to him apart from Job's father. And if I have the right Thomas Hayes (Job's father) he died in 1864.
Eliza did start to call Kate a "Jones" after she married Thomas Jones. (census 1901).
I believe Eliza got mixed up in names when she registered Kate. Seeing Eliza was still a Hayes.
The deeper I get into this, its giving me a headache...lol
