Sent by Ruhama Shannon from Sulgrove Family Record, and Hiatt Family by John O. Beasley.

William and Elizabeth removed in 1805/6 from N.C. to Ohio where Joseph was born ca 1806/7. Ca 1806/7 they moved to Wayne Co., Ind. where his brother Isaac & John settled. In 1826/7 they removed to Grant Co., Ind.

William was living with his son in Grant Co., Ind. in the 1850 census.

Sketch of William Hiatt written by Charles E. Rush, a great grandson:
"William Hiatt entered land 31 July 1826 in Grant Co., Indiana; then only one or two dozen families in the County. With son David settled on mile north of Jonesboro on west bank of Mississinewa River, which later was considered as
possible site for the county seat. Moved family early in 1827, cutting a woods road orchard in the region, and was the local authority on grafting and pruning. He was the first to enter land in Mills Township. He and wife are buried in the Old Friends Cemetery in Marion.
Marriage information sent by Marjorie Smith, found in North Carolina Archives.

We have not had much success in receiving information from these lines and many of them are not very complete. This should be an easy one to follow since so many would have family stories of their grandfather, uncle or cousins connected to the delicious apple.
In 1966, in response to an article written by Cappers Weekly concerning the delicious apple and Jesse Hiatt, Golda Hiatt, widow of Arthur Hiatt of Amelia, Neb. wrote a response to Mrs. David Hiatt of Pierre, S.D.

Dear Mrs. Hiatt Amelia, Neb.
Nov. 22nd 1966
I saw your article in the Cappers paper. That Jesse Hiatt was an Great Uncle of your Husband.
We could be related to as Jesse Hiatt was a great uncle of my husband.
Uncle Leslie, Arthur & Elam were an uncle of my husband.
We have the picture of the old apple tree, and my husbands father Stephen & Uncle Arthur & Aunt Evaline is standing by it.
If you ever get down here, would like to have you come & see us. My husband Arthur just passed away in June (1966). I thought it would be interesting to write you.
Respectfully
Mrs. Arthur Hiatt Amelia, Neb.

Then a card sent 14 Dec 1966: Best Wishes, Goldie, Paul and Gene (Hiatt)
Dear Mrs. Hiatt
I was glad to get your letter & I hope we can meet sometime. I wish my husband was living, he would be so glad to heard from you.
We had a real good year, but it is so dry now.
I hope you have a nice Christmas Goldie Hiatt
